Back to Azolla

Azolla
Azolla are small, floating aquatic ferns and are taxonomically difficult due to the microscopic nature of the diagnostic characters. Azolla caroliniana Willd. and A. filiculoides Lam. have both been historically reported from our area. Recent research (Evrard & Van Hove, 2004) suggests that A. caroliniana should be called A. cristata Kaulf. All Azolla records are herein mapped as one unit until further research can yield clarity.
