The formerly broadly circumscribed Potamogeton diversifolius has been recently split into two more narrowly circumscribed species- Potamogeton diversifolius sensu stricto and Potamogeton bicupulatus (= P. diversifolius var. trichophyllus). They are herein mapped as one unit until further research can clarify the occurrence and distribution of these taxa in the NY metropolitan area.
