There is disagreement among botanists whether Bidens aristosa (Michx.) Britt. and Bidens polylepis Blake are two narrowly circumscribed species, or whether B. polylepis should be subsumed into a more widely circumscribed B. aristosa. Further research is needed to clarify the occurrence and distribution of these taxa in the NY metropolitan area.
