Back to Elatine
Three species of
Elatine
have been reported from our flora. The native
E
.
americana
(Pursh) Arn. and
E
.
minima
(Nutt.) Fisch. & Meyer and the non-native
E
.
triandra
Schkuhr. All three species differ by subtle micro-morphologies and further research is needed to clarify the occurrence and distribution of these taxa in our area.
Elatine
species are possibly more common than the map would indicate. Due to their very diminutive stature, their submerged habitat, and often-encountered sterile condition (seeds are essential for positive identification), they might be under-reported/collected.
