The nativity of this species in our area is uncertain. The main range of this species is from the southeastern United States as far north as southern NJ; with a couple of historical disjunct populations reported for Long Island and Massachusetts. The recent occurrence on Long Island is thought to be the result of accidental introduction with other southeastern spp. used in landscaping and not a relictal population.
